Like other Tuscan cities, Lucca hosts a remarkable cultural heritage: the city is an open air museum built during the ages, where ancient and newer buildings are side by side.
Unique to Lucca are the Renaissance city walls, on whose top is a park. Lucca is birthplace of the componists Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805) and Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924).
