San Gimignano is a small town near Siena. It has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO for its unique architecture characterized by 13 medieval towers which survived wars and destructions suffered from the towers once existing in many other cities.
San Gimignano is known for the many artworks it offers to visitors, as well as for the Vernaccia, an exquisite white wine produced only in the wineyards surrounding San Gimignano. It is the birthplace of the mediaeval poet Folgóre di San Gimignano (1270-1332).
